ORBIT
powder coated aluminum, 15′ × 11’ × 12’ (co-artist Charlotte Wall).
Richmond, BC, Canada.
ORBIT is a permanent public sculpture intended to enliven and enhance Richmond’s pedestrian greenway and to contribute to the tranquility of the space and the surrounding gardens. Three separate main components are composed of unique individual forms reminiscent of “orbs”. The forms, with their pearlescent white, metallic bronze and antique gold coloured gloss surfaces are animated by the lively reflections created by changes in light and passing movement. It evokes rotational and vertical forces inviting contemplation of the relationship of its forms, surfaces modulating the light, and spatial composition. Seen from a distance, ORBIT is a tall, welcoming and iconic form identifying a place to rest and the entrance to a courtyard.
Commissioned by Concord Pacific and the City of Richmond, BC. Public Art Collection of the City of Richmond.
